Our Story
For more than 100 years
Since 1910, our Hotel has represented the tradition of hospitality in Santa Margherita Ligure: more than a hundred years of passion thatHotel Regina Elena celebrates with an exhibition in thehotel‘s antique hall, where the original parquet floor and intact furnishings recall that sober pleasant taste in front of the sea.
The 1910 intercom button panel for room service, the 1930s teacups and silverware, the 1950s sugar bowl, the introduction of running water around 1920s, and the Touring Guide, year 1932, which tells of that Santa Margherita between the everyday of the village and the intuition of beauty to make enterprise.
Pieces of life and history reassembled by the Ciana family in the old salon: that slow, circular pace that shares a 100-year-long family name with Marquez.
In the beginning was Gaudenzio Ciana who, a hotelier on Lake Orta, came to Santa in 1897 and bought the Hotel Metropole. Meanwhile, his son Alberto built the Continentale and, in 1910, purchased the Regina Elena.
With hotels in the high season, from November to April, and “moderate prices” at the Regina Elena, 35-45 liras a day in July and August, and 40-50 in April: the ’39 brochure of the Azienda Autonoma del Turismo shows the Imperial beating 90 liras for full board versus 65 at the Regina Elena.
